2026 Subjective Yield Survey results

The results have been calculated, and the 2026 Subjective Yield Survey is projecting another record crop for American hazelnuts—143,720 tons.

The Subjective Yield Survey is the only industrywide tool for predicting the U.S. hazelnut production each year. The survey is conducted by sending survey cards to all hazelnut growers in Oregon and Washington, who then assess their orchards in July and August and complete and anonymously return said cards to the Hazelnut Industry Office. The cards are tallied and per-acre averages are determined for three age ranges, 0-5 years old, 6-10 years old, and 11+ years old. Field mapping from Pacific Ag Survey is utilized to estimate the acres in the growing region.

19,351 acres were recorded in the Survey, with an average of 3,007 pounds-per-acre. Extrapolated out over the 96,000 acres from the Pacific Ag Survey, and the total estimated 2026 U.S. hazelnut harvest is 143,720. This represents an approximately 17 percent projected growth over the 2025 actual harvest.

Hazelnut harvest in Oregon and Washington begins throughout September and continues until late October. Actual yield results are typically calculated the following spring.
